(Barry Sides)
From the album Barry Sides "Slippin' Away"
Slippin’ Away is the title track from my first album. I wrote Slippin’ Away the night of 9/11. I remember sitting in my apartment feeling so numb, so confused, and so very very sad. I turned off the TV and picked up my guitar. I remember feeling like all I wanted to do was to slip away. My guitar was tuned to a Drop–D tuning. I played the D chord and then went to the relative minor chord as I sang “There’s war on the TV…I’m on my own…there’s bills on the table…right next to the phone” I just sang the song all the way through as the words just came out of my mouth. I sang it three or four times to make sure I could remember it then wrote it down. That’s how songs come sometimes. The angels just whisper them into your ear. Then all you have to do is write them down.
There's war on the TV
I'm on my own
There's bills on the table
Right next to the phone

I'm feeling empty
So is my bed
I've got my bottle
To fill up my head

I don't feel like workin'
At least not today
I just feel like slippin'
Just slippin' away

I aint got much money
I've got lots of time
I've got a head full of dreams
And a glass full of wine

My bones they are achin'
I'm tired of the pain
I'm tired of prayin'
To old what's his name

I don't feel like talkin'
At least not today
I just feel like slippin'
Just slippin' away
